About EdWatch

Edwatch is an advocacy group that is a voice for students and parents in Vermont where this voice is lost among all the interests groups surrounding education at the Vermont State House.

Vermont’s current education system is gradually becoming too centralized and corporate in nature: voters have little control, families have limited voice, and taxpayers are told to simply pay more. Instead of continuing down this path, EdWatch believes Vermont should consider a ground-up redesign of its entire education system—one that preserves small public and independent schools, expands educational freedom to all students in Vermont, and restores accountability. This new system would use the same teachers, the same school buildings, and the same students to create a truly Student Centered Education System with costs being controlled at the state level.

Unfortunately, the Vermont legislature is going in the opposite direction. With the passage of Act 73 in 2025, the Legislature wants to consolidate power even further from local communities, taxpayers, and families making public schools the only schools kids can go to. Those parents living in Vermont tuitioning towns who have had  school choice for 150 years will be losing those choices. Small public schools will be closed as they can no longer meet minimum class sizes. And these larger districts will determine which school students will attend. Do you really want that from the education system in Vermont?
